Jon & Maaike on DUTCH TV (10/Talpa) When you would have put on your Dutch TV and zapped to channel 10 (TALPA) on Monday April 23, 2007, at 10:50 hours you would have seen a LIVE TV
appearance of Jon & Maaike in the program "TIJD voor 10". The show was repeated that same afternoon from
16:00 until 17:00 on the same channel. We recorded this session and put it on YOUTUBE for you to watch and listen to it. Enjoy!
Jazz Festival "MIDNIGHT EXPRESS" in Groningen Jon & Maaike were participating in this jazz festival and together with fellow musicians Gerarda de Groot (cello), Stanley Medema (saxophone) and Rob Ahlers (percussion) they gave a great performance at cafe BUCKSHOT on April 8, 2007, Easter Sunday afternoon, at 17:00 hours.
On holiday, on tour & on TV in Asturias (Spain) End of July and beginning of August 2006, Jon & Maaike were on holiday in Spain (Asturias). While getting some tan, having a look at
the local scenery and meeting old friends, they also managed to squeeze in some performances. The concerts in Aviles were a great success and led to an interview with photo in a big Asturian newspaper which runs
editions of more than a million copies. Than the interview led to an invitation to perform on Asturian TV! So Jon & Maaike were taken to the TV studio in Gijon and made their first (live) TV appearance ever, in
Spain! As they were told this specific late night TV (talk) show was being watched by more than 5 million viewers in 4 Spanish provinces (Cantabria, Asturias, Leon & Galicia). After the show the telephones went
red hot by Spanish people asking for CDs of Jon & Maaike, but unfortunately there is not yet a CD. You can watch their TV performance by clicking on the YOUTUBE icon above. After their last Spanish performance
in LA LUNA, a special concert for their (surfing) friends,
they returned to The Netherlands and visited London in the process. Below on the photo on the left you can see Jon & Maaike together with the hostess of the Spanish TV show (standing to the right of Jon). And the photo below to the right pictures Maaike, who is being prepared for going in front of the cameras of Asturian TV.
Guest appearance in "Not The Dr. Phil Show" An earlier performance of Jon & Maaike in Zwolle led to an invitation for a guest appearance in the cabaret show "Not The Dr. Phil Show" on December 15, 2005, at the Odeon Theater at Zwolle. Together with Rob Ahlers they performed 2 songs with much acclaim in a sold out
show. You can see them rehearsing prior to the performance on the photo below. After the show Maaike talked to renowned Dutch TV hostess Daphne Bunskoek, who was also a guest in the show.
Live performance & interview on OOG radio A local radio station at Groningen town called "OOG Radio" was very interested in Jon & Maaike and invited them for an interview and asked
them to perform some of their songs =live= in the studio. Naturally they were very eager and so they performed 4 songs LIVE (acoustic). Also the studio take of: "Don't Dry Another Tear" was aired on Friday evening,
December 3rd, between 22:00 and 24:00 hours. You can listen to the interview and the live performances of their songs by clicking on to the link of the following web site: OOG Weekend Club You have to download the interview and the live songs in mp3 format and this will take a while. Also the audio quality is not first rate, but for the true fan this is not a burden.
London revisited Jon & Maaike visited London once more from October 20th until October 30th, 2005. On
the day of their arrival they played at "The Prince of Wales" in the district Putney. The
following evening, together with fellow musicians JESS & NEIL, they performed in "Reds" Restaurant, 146 Upper Richmond Road in Putney. And on Sunday, October 23rd, there was a very special
venue at "The Grey Horse" in Kingston upon Thames (South London) (see picture below). Jon & Maaike were accompanied
during their visit to London by percussionist Rob Ahlers. And a special one-time appearance in "The Grey Horse" was there for Harmke (Harry) and Nynke, together with their sister Maaike! For this
occasion the musical sisters had prepared a special venue for this evening, comprised of soul and rock & roll material. All three sisters on vocals were joined by Jon & Neil, both on guitar,
Rob on drums, Jess on bass guitar, Conolly on djembe and Maaike also on piano. A true memorable occasion. And on Monday, October 24th, Jon & Maaike &
Rob were at the acoustic session in the "Half Moon" in Putney once more. Some people attending this gig came
especially for Jon & Maaike as they had seen and heard them on the previous visit to London. They brought their friends too. Very nice indeed.
Other performances during that week were in "The Prospect", "The Progress Bar" and the "Piano Bar". You can find photos of there visit and performances on this web site on the biopic page.
On
their last Saturday in London Jon & Maaike spend some time in a London recording studio. As they got acquainted with the singer / songwriter Adam Temple, he invited Maaike earlier on for doing
some background vocals on the recording of one of his songs. As it turned out, Maaike sang the lead vocals on his song "Love is the gun". The recording session was one in establishing a CD with dance
music by a company called Gibson Music Ltd with producer Phil Sherrington.
Thank You, Mr. Jones Also from this place there is a very special = Thank You = for Mister Jerry Jones
on behalf of Jon & Maaike, family, relatives and friends. Their stay in London would not have been possible was it not for the care and help of Jerry.
Groningen "Noorderzon" In 2004 Jon & Maaike also stood on stage, though briefly, of the Noorderzon festival. This time in 2005 they performed with a full program for the evening, where they were accompanied by Rob Ahlers on percussion and Steve Bradshaw on violin. You could have found them on the little stage (dwarf stage) near the covered terrace on /over the Noorderplantsoen pond from 19:30 hours on Tuesday evening of august 23, 2005. For regular Noorderzon festival attenders and local Groningen inhabitants this is a known and loved spot and location, where you can have a drink and listen to the performing acts. The weather gods were smiling upon this occasion and so it went on to become a fantastic evening with Jon & Maaike & Rob & Steve in this 2005 edition of their Noorderzon Festival performance.
Prior to their concert, in the late afternoon at 18:00 hours, they were performing live in front of a local audience and a live local radio broadcast station called RTV NOORD at the "Spiegeltent"
stage in the "Noorderplantsoen" location. They performed on radio two of their own songs: "Walk With Me" and "Taking A Step Back". That was quite a homecoming after to have flown in, hours before, from their London
adventure at the "Half Moon" performance, the night before.
London "Half Moon" On 10/8/2005
Jon & Maaike took off to London for a vacation of 2 weeks AND for a performance in the legendary pub the "Half Moon" in the district Putney / Lower Richmond (South London). Almost all famous British pop bands, except the Beatles, have performed there in the past. The "Half Moon" has a nice and informative web site, surely worthy of visiting. Every Monday evening there is an acoustic session in the
"Half Moon" for singers/songwriters. But as a performer you have to get invited. It is not a so called "open mic" gig, which is very common in pubs around London. But thanks to our friend Jerry X John, who has
arranged this performance, Jon & Maaike have performed on Monday evening august 22 at around 20:00 hours, with great acclaim too. Prior doing their part in the "Half Moon" Jon & Maaike went on the
circuit of "open mic" gigs at several pubs in South London such as: the IDLE HOUR, PARADISE ALLEY, the PROSPECT, the BRITANNIA and EARLS COURT TAVERN, all with much acclaim of the public. They were asked several
times to perform again and gained many new fans and acquaintances. Take a look at the pictures you can retrieve from the PIOPIC page of this web site.
